He was still alive.

That was the main take away from the day, and an important one. Not many pilots could come out of that dogfight at all, let alone in tact enough to make it to a planet, and let alone intact enough to survive the landing. He was alive, and he wasn't a smear of ash hanging in space. That was the important part.

The unfortunate part was that the planet he had ended up on was just barely this side of habitable. The local star was still in the sky, which was probably the only reason that Poe hadn't already turned into a human popsicle. But he was starting to feel like one.

He'd managed to salvage some emergency gear from his X-Wing, but the thing was never going to fly again and the communications system was completely gone. He had seen some sort of city or facility in the far west when he'd been tumbling through the atmosphere, and so he knew that was his best bet. Wrap himself up in an emergency blanket and just try to trudge through... well, probably days worth of snow. The first few hours were miserable but manageable - his legs were getting sore with the overuse, and he was getting numb, but he could still move and he wasn't in real pain. The star was starting to get low, however, and he needed to find shelter. Fast.

It was as if time had slowed to a crawl.

This wasn't a new feeling, for Poe. It was more like a liminal space that he sometimes slipped into where nothing felt quite as it usually did, and he didn't feel quite how he usually did. He didn't actually think about it much, because part of the make up of this space was that thought had little to do with it at all. It was almost a meditation, a stillness and a clarity that came very rarely but when it did he was able to follow his instincts and move much faster than he would otherwise.

If he had the vocabulary to consider it, he would call it battlefield meditation. A focus so precise that nothing else mattered than the thing he was trying to do in the moment, even if the rest of the universe was blowing up around him. Even if the ship was blowing up around him.

Maybe, if anyone bothered to explain it to him that way, they would call it the Force.

But as it was, Poe wasn't actually thinking about it at all. The only thing Poe was thinking about was his task. His task of dragging a man half again his size away from a giant collapsing and dying mutated creature, with the sound of more screaming from down the hall. A man that two years ago he is sure he would have left to die, but now, for reasons he's never been able to articulate, he can't.

He could hear Finn yelling behind him, but his voice sounded twice as slow as it should, and far less audible than the thump of Poe's own blood in his ears, as he tried not to let his hands slip in Ren's.

He was so focused he barely even noticed as he nearly tripped getting into the doorway, as he pulled Kylo's body through the air lock and then collapsed under him as the lock hissed shut.

It was more and more common, for Poe to dream about Earth.

When he'd first arrived, all his dreams had been of home - both the good ones, and his nightmares. But after living on Earth for over a year, his brain was finally starting to acclimatise.

It wasn't even the first time he'd dreamed of this diner.
s
He didn't know he was dreaming, of course. He never did. He'd never lucid dreamed, never realised mid dream that he was some place wrong. He just ran with whatever was in front of him. Today, it was the diner. Almost the same as when he'd met Kylo Ren's duplicate all those months ago, except that it was empty. No waitress, no staff, no customers. This didn't seem to concern him, though. All he was concerned about was the milkshake in front of him, and the figure waiting outside the doors.

He knew he was expecting him. It wasn't the same, as in real life. In real life they'd come together. But in the dream, he waited for the man's arrival, his gut rolling with nerves.

Alex hummed under his breath, leaning all the way back in his chair as he looked over his cards. He was making a show of being unsure, but he had a great hand. Only problem was, after a beer and a lot of Poker, he had nothing left to bet with, and Amos had just raised. He was pretty sure, however, that he could win this hand. So he needed something.

"Alrigh'," he said finally after a minute, "But I ain't got any scrip left, so I might have to literally bet the shirt off my back." He looked up at both of them - an amused smirk twitching at his lips. "If ya'll think you have the guts to match."
