I have a feeling we have a thing or two we can do to take care of that, [ Rex purrs in Poe's ear, which isn't conducive to settling the man down, but his ironclad will can only go so far. He won't relent today, not when Poe's still in such pain and they still have more of his vitals to go over. Later, though, there's plenty he can think up that doesn't require Poe to move at all. He'll have to pass the message onto Andy who quite clearly didn't get that particular memo.

Pfassk, he's pretty, though, even roughed up and drugged to the gills and in need of more of a shower than what Andy and Rex could provide just trying to ineffectually mop him up. It's a lot easier to appreciate that in the calm of the medbay now that it's clear that Poe will be all right. He pauses, though, something fond and painful twisting in his gut. He wonders if Poe knows how right he is, how vital he is to what makes them them. He probably does.

Probably doesn't cut it. He brings Poe's hands together around his midsection, Rex's own hands draped over top of them. ]

You are, you know. The love of our lives.

[ Because that's how their strange little relationship goes, isn't it? Poe tells Rex he loves him; Rex tells Poe he loves him. Poe tells Rex Andy loves him; Rex tells Poe Andy loves him. It shouldn't work. But Rex fancies that it does - and if it doesn't, well hell, he'll never know the difference. ]

[ When Rex feels Poe stiffen against him, he grins - and even if Poe can't see it out of the corner of his eye from where Rex's chin is still propped on his shoulder, he may be able to feel it in the way Rex's jaw clenches. It didn't take him long for him to realize how much he enjoys having that effect on Poe. It's not something he's ever tired of.

The grin fades a little when Poe speaks next though, oddly vulnerable in a way he hadn't managed to be when Poe had been passed out. He squeezes Poe's hand. ]

Well, you're ours too, even if we don't say it enough. You just caught on a little faster than we did. [ His voice turns wry, a little teasing. ] Turns out we were a bit dense. We'd be fools not to see it by now.

[ Honestly, he saw it as soon as Poe pointed it out. As for love of my life - well. Look at them. How could it be anything else? Rex certainly doesn't intend to love anyone but the two people on this ship for the rest of his life. ]

[ Rex had been happy to simply stay put so that Poe could stretch and rest, knowing that the chances of them simply going to sleep propped up to each other were fairly high - which isn't a bad thing, with Rex serving as an overly large pillow and Poe a glorified stuffed animal. He lets out a quiet noise of protestation once Poe shifts in his arms, moving in exactly the sort of way Rex had told him not to.

He opens his mouth to tell him off (because honestly, what had they just gone over?), but he loses that fight as soon as Poe's fingers touch his jaw. While Rex may play at resisting the others' whims a little more than they do, he's quickly learned that he's a weak man at heart, wholly useless against their considerable charms. He leans into the kiss instead of pushing it away, closing his eyes and raising one hand to card his fingers through the fine hairs at the nape of Poe's neck. When Poe speaks, Rex's eyes are still closed, nosing at Poe's cheek, forehead bumping gently up against his temple. ]

Of course I did, [ he says roughly, in a tone that others may mistake for gruffness rather than emotion. ] I'm yours, cyare.

[ A lifetime of being groomed to serve another isn't one that's shed so easily. Rex never did manage to make off the idea of belonging to another person and no matter what they may think about the matter, he'll always belong to and be bound in service to the two people he's found himself tangled up with. It's different this way, though. It's his choice to swear that devotion to them - and while one of their number may contest the point, they're his as well.

He loosens his grip, knuckles running down the vertebrae of Poe's neck as he remembers that sometimes Poe needs to hear it directly, just as Rex does, that pledging fealty and loyalty is not always enough. ]
I love you too.
