I've never been coy in my life.

[ ...okay, that one's probably not a lie. It's not in Rex's make-up. But he stops to consider what Poe says, not because he understands it, but because it's obviously important to him. Hell, it's important to Andy too, if she stormed out over it. He can't place a single time when he'd felt jealous of Andy about anything other than her prowess in a fight or, perhaps, the fact that she always manages to fire off one-liners before he gets his out. But when it comes to Poe? He can't imagine why he'd be jealous, or upset. Andy deserves goodness in her life, and so does Poe - them together just means that they got to stumble into it together. To feel jealous of such a thing seems to Rex a decidedly selfish notion.

There's just one thing he doesn't understand. ]

What made you think we weren't already happy? With the way things were?

[ So he loves them. That idea will take time to get used to. He knows that. But how it changes things, concretely, in their day-to-day is absolutely negligible. He'll still have their back, and they'll still have his. They'll still be together, to hell with Andy's whims. What more is there to it? ]

[ Poe thinks he's the one getting the best end of the deal? That makes Rex look even more skeptical than ever. Maybe they'd all been aimless at the beginning, but Rex had been the one on the run, unable to meet anyone he could possibly trust. No friends, no families, no allies, not a friendly face in sight. And somehow, impossibly, he'd wound up with two people not only willing to stay by his side but people he wants by his side - good, noble, brave, foolhardy people he can trust with his life. He doesn't need the word love bandied about to get the good end of this deal.

He has a life now. A happy one. It's something he'd never dared dream of before and something he's still astonished he's got now. Sure, the idea of - of maneuvers with Andy is -- well. She's an remarkable woman, isn't she? Coy at times and fierce at others, as enchanting as any gussied up noble that Rex has ever seen, even when covered with grime and blood, a wild grin on her face, in any of her many moods. And perhaps he's heard and known that they're - maneuvering, which is not without some accompanying --

Well. Rex coughs and looks away, his neck and ears beginning to burn traitorously in a way that means that he knows he's flushing. ]

I think it's fair to say we are as happy as you are, [ he says, voice tight in a way that has nothing to do with being upset with Poe. All this business is just a bit embarrassing. He's out of his depth, every step of the way. ] But regardless of how all this pans out, we need to go find her.
